New Southwest Off-Road Coordinator
I’m Luke Sayer, and after serving as the Southwest Regional Trials Coordinator in 2017, I have volunteered to work on the 2018 Southwest motocross program as well. I started riding and racing motorcycles in the late-1960s and early-‘70s. I was very active racing motocross, cross country, enduros, flat track and just plain trail riding. Along the way, I also did a little drag racing as well as roadracing.
After starting a family, I took a break from competing on off-road motorcycles, although I did continue to ride streetbikes over the years. I switched from motorcycles to bicycle road, track and mountain bike races. After breaking a few bones racing bicycles, I switched to sailboat racing where I competed until retiring from a career in aerospace. Once retired, I decided to get back to off-road riding. A few friends from college were competing in AHRMA trials and MX, so I accompanied them at an event, and I was hooked.
For the last three years I have been competing in both trials and MX on a few different bikes, but my current favorites are a 1956 Matchless 350 trials special and a BSA 441 for MX. For 2018 my plan is race a TriBSA Premier Open Twins bike in MX (in addition to the 441), and ride trials aboard the Matchless.
I look forward to being the 2018 Southwest Region Off-Road Coordinator. My goals are to continue the great trials legacy of Matt Parsons and to grow the Southwest MX events. We have a great potential in our region! Please let me know of any new event ideas you might have. If you see me at the races, please stop and say hi.
